12 sq Metre Sharpies

Post by Ancient Geek »

Brilliant class CVRDA-able every one, I think, but updated as they go and raced hard.

Jon would be good if you could recruit a few for Oulton Week. I remember we used to get a couple in the early 60's. They are heavy and have on rails directional control make a big mess in a T Bone situation scantlings are so heavy they are immune to being T boned! Best friend wouldn't call rthem pretty in the traditional way but impressive! - Stately as a galleon -.

Good turn out, too. They do look like great boats. Didn't the Aussies do a stripped out version called the Light Sharpie?

Well, it is advertised at both Brancaster Staithe SC and Wells SC both UK Mainstays of the Sharpie. But a good point, I will drop a line to James Case (He (just),beat me at Wells, 3 years ago in his Phantom, and came third in the Sharpie nationals that year with David Frary crewing). A good reminder to get back on the promotional trail!!

AG, thank you for getting me back on the case, other issues, seemed to be overwhelming me!!

Once discribed by a noted member of RCBCYC as the "fastest coffins on the water". He felt that they weren't pretty due to their very hard chine, "but they go to weather like a witch".

These had their Dutch champs at the same time as the contenders last year on Aalsmeer. I have to say going round the course with them was quite entertaining - they point scarily high! Lovely looking boats though. There were a few Brits making the journey there too.

An excelleny example of a traditional class moving with the times, more seen in keelboats classes than dinghies sadly.

They were great people too. The winners were presented with very plush bathrobes at the prize giving ready for their traditional dunking. You'd think they'd make strange bedfellows with the contenders, but it was all good fun.
