Wow, I just saw the post on the Chesapeake Dug outs. Very impressive.

Interesting to compare these with "Junior(?)" versions sailed in Martinique.

One masted- the "Yole."

Two masted, the "Gommier"

My bucket list is just growing and growing. Crewing a Gommier is one...

...and Surf rowing in Brighton, Australia are still at the top. A Jan Juc crew here, well on their way to heaven!

Great, I am pleased you found it impressive, I found it very interesting to research the chesapeake bay dug out log, a very interesting topic! (at least I have found)

On a side note, thank you very much for your comments, it is nice to know people enjoy reading the calendar!

Cheers,

Max

I too found it most interesting , so some more ideas,Tempo Scows.
Newfoundland Trap Skiffs-as someone I know built one of those on his garage and now rows it whilst trying to get some sails made for it, well last time we spoke.
They are based on River Thames boats, that were used as water Taxis way back in Tudor times, and a design the Pilgrim Fathers took with them to the new world, on the Mayflower.
Subsequently they were further use as Duck Trap boats, on the Newfoundland tributories (and those of the great Lakes in Canada), hence the name. With perhaps more historical provinence than your average sailing boat.Image

Hi Gavin,

Thanks very much....

Many thanks for the suggestion, I will make sure it makes the calendar at some point! It is certainly worthy, and from what you have said, it has a lot of very interesting history...

Thanks again,

Max

On another note, Michael, the Yole and Gommier certainly look like they have an interesting story to tell too...I will find a way to put them in too, and make a comparison with the Chesapeake Bay Log Canoe as well....

Thanks, for the info...

Best wishes,

Max
