Off topic 'what is that?'

Post by Ed »

I am so determined to get my little Looe River boat back on the water asap this year and certainly for the summer.

But so far of course, progress has been very slow, with the awful weather making it next to impossible to get any work done at all.

After that, I want to get the Tideway back on the water, but that won't be in the yard. I simply can't get it back from where it is without putting it on the river and it is going to be simpler to work on it where it is and then chuck it back in.

So with the weather being so crap and all, I have made a start with a new project. Just thinking and poking so far.....Will be in the yard as soon as the river-boat goes.

Anyway. What is it?

Age? well if it was a dinghy we would class it as 'old'

OHC - Not VW
Watercooled - Not Citroen
4 cylinder? - Not Porsche

My guess would be Alfa Romeo Alfasud...

I'm just getting a no entry sign. I'll have to fire up the laptop.

Ed,

Can't see your picture but I have a new infestation in the garage, nuzzling up to the Tideway. It just sits there dripping gently and seems to be grinning at me.

I would enjoy towing one of these behind it

but not up hills.

I think image is loading.....but slowly.

I will try and find something a little smaller.

But yes, realnutter, good deductive skills there.

Lovely!! Haven't seen an Alfasud in years!!

My dad owned a Citroen GSA in the late 70's... 1300cc OHC aircooled boxer 4... was lovely and smooth.. I remember us towing our Mirror 16 to the coast behind it...

I had a GSA estate in the early 90s, but it died, sadly.

Have you seen https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/

You can look up how many of a given type of car are left on the road.....

The numbers can be shockingly low for once popular cars...

Michael 4, You have serious competition ... Garry has two ribbed merlins plus two austin 7s and someone else has a very early merlin and a Model T ford. I just have two and a half merlins and an old pedal bicycle that my grandsons laugh at, but is less than 40 years old and I thought was just a normal bike!

I had an Alfasud once. Needed to sit down very gently because the floor tened to split. Absolutely lovely, made a great noise, even when being driven down to the crappie!

Just 9 Lada Riva 1.5 estates left actually driving. Loved that car. Especially loved how when bombing down the motorway you could turn the steering wheel quite a long way before the car actually noticed!

This may be a urban myth, but I understood most Ladas were exported back to Russia.

They were indeed. Either bought or stolen. Sadly, no one ever nicked mine, even though I used to leave it unlocked in Bristol.

Someone once nicked my Standard Vanguard estate. What a relief.
