According to Burrett, the Kenn11 is 11ft loa & 5ft beam so similar but not right
Heron?
Heron?
Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
Its certainly not a Gull. That much for sure.
Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
I'm still amazed that with so many self proclaimed experts that this thread is being overlooked. This is what the CVRDA is about. Come on folks, what is this boat?
Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
It does look very much like a GRP Kenn 11, but as Alan H says, were they ever made in GRP?

Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
I think the transom is wrong for that... There's some unusual decorative moulding on the topsides, you'd think someone would remember. I kept thinking Hheron, but judging by the Heron website the stern is wrong for that as well. It seems to have fairly distinctive high freeboard and low rise of floor aft.Rupert wrote:It does look very much like a GRP Kenn 11, but as Alan H says, were they ever made in GRP?

Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
I don't think it is from a french maker, though it has some features in common with Zef Piaf and Haddock, (those were 12 / 13 ft forerunnnners of the Laser 13 and very similar in shape...)
The big difference is that the mystery boat is hard chined , while the afore mentioned boats were designed for GRP from the start ...and of course round chined.
The mystery boat has probably started as a plywood boat at some moment in the fifties, before going GRP

If you go back to your original post - Number 7.
This is a wooden version but see how close the mast and boom matches Otch Potch.

I also found this which clearly states GRP construction with Blue and wooden trim.
If you look at the scanned picture you can even pick out the cleat in the middle of the deck.
Any better offers? I am a self proclaimed NON EXPERT.

Looks very similar to a Heron hull shape, even has a strange tank in front of the transom where there is usually a bag

Re: CAN YOU NAME THIS DINGHY PLEASE
Aint like any heron I have owned........Acually I have owned only one and it was vintage 1959 wood on frame variety. But I have seen a fair few.
The rear tank and the funny moulding line that runs under the gunnel is unusual. the heron also has a very pronounced Skeg, which this boat does not have. I expect the 'designers/copiers looked at a heron though as in other ways it is very similar.
However Butler boats now make a plastic Heron, which they started only a few years ago (i.e. this century). If I recall, all herons before that were wood, and most of the older ones, but not all, were Gunter rigged.
just thought I would throw that in.....

My memory is not what it was. But I think the missing Skeg is the most important reason why it is not a Heron?
