well - that certainly might rack the competition up a bit! It scuppers my earlier guesses of scorpion and YWscow though.

The Yawls have a bowsprit too... but the max width at 10' from the bow might be right. However, construction is (as far as I have ever seen) along the lines of a rather large merlin rocket - clenched lap on frames. And they certainly have chain plates. Big strong ones.

Day seven photo. Do my eyes deceive me or are the seams welds rather than seams?

There is one seam butting up to the wood at the foredeck, so unless you know how to weld wood...? Are they not just fillets?

Still, I'd not be surprised if the boat was built from unobtainium.

You know the parable of the Elephant (if a parable it is) where different people see/feel different bits, and come to different conclusions about what it looks like? Well, I've seen all the bits, and still have 7 different shapes in mind!

I dunno, I think I've got something of a picture of the construction/setup of the boat, but I just can't match it up to any dinghy I can think of. I'm seeing a boat with low tanks all the way round, including under the fordeck, all interior painted white, and varnished wood decking above that. I can't reconcile the deck picture with the cutouts to any obvious way of setting up a boat I can think of though unless the ply stripes aren't for and aft. No idea whether there's a stern tank or not. I am wondering if its not a dinghy, and not CVRDA'able on that account, but the first shot seems to show a clear dinghy launching trolley, unless that's a red herring.
The "measure past transom thing is interesting, but I wonder if that might just mean a raked stern - so something in American style. Snipes mostly have full height side tanks though from what I can make out.

think he already said no rudder paraphernalia...

I am also thinking raked stern, but I'm tyhinking more drascombe/dayboat type thing than typical dinghy. Something like a Fyne boats thing, or whatever it is...ie modern build, old looking...

Some guidance: No deliberate red herrings from me, that would devalue the whole puzzle too much. She is a sailing dinghy or keelboat of some pedigree. Chain plates haven't been removed temporarily during restoration. Great hairy hornet sailors who seek to gain unfair advantage by lurking in my drive pretending to be en route to the local pasty shop will be subject to a rule 69 dismissal, without hearing, appeal or redress.
Day 9:

And the photo? It's fixed (not to the trolley or trailer), it's not a tiller, extension, spinny pole or jibstick.

Not aware we have seen anything that looks like a board-case.....I wonder if it doesn't have one....may be a leadmine?

just looks more like a dinghy....but I am certainly going backwards with my ideas!

Hi Phil
I know what it is but I'll keep the secret, cost you a pint though. Hairy Hornet sailor in the past now balding Finn sailor. Hence the reason for stopping at Dizzy's on the way to a rugby match.
Cheers Al
