GRP clinker 12ft - no maker -any ideas?

Post by mapron »

I recently acquired a sailing dinghy for restoration after she was left in a field for 5 years. She was well built but has no makers plate or sail insignia. The hull is clinker style GRP and the internal fittings mahogany. Length 12ft 3in and beam 5ft 5in. She had the name Tanyss. The (missing) mast is stepped well forward which suggests a single main and no gib but previous owners have modified her. At one time she was sailed with a bowsprit but there are no proper fixing points for this. Restoration is proceeding well with rotten wood cut out and replaced and soon I'll be on to the repaint/revarnish stage. The boom ( 9ft long) and mainsail (tan with reefing) came with her and I can source a mast and gaff which I think will fit. The moulded hull suggests a proper class and I would love to know what she is and how she was originally rigged. Any ideas would be appreciated.
