Making varnish non slip

Post by Michael4 »

Next question...

When using those non slip granules in varnish how do I get a tidy job with reasonably even distribution?

I'll mask so only the areas I want get gritted.

I assume I put them into the last coat or do I let the second to last coat go quite tacky, spread them across the surface and then varnish over?

The was a thread about this recently - well, I the last year.

Every thing from mixing in sand into paint or varnish to sprinkling on sugar when the varnish is down. The sugar then dissolves, just leaving its imprint.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, I never remember to try the search but it does work! I do like the idea of the tape from Heskins...

For info Heskins have turned out to be quite helpful, they sent a sample and are happy to cut Aqua Safe non slip tape to a width I specify for no additional charge (50mm and 100mm are stock lines).

Rolls are 18.3m long and at 50mm wide they are £25 plus vat just over £1.64 per metre...plus postage. Not cheap but if it works it will be a tidy job.
