Solo Sidetank issues

Post by simonfitzpatrick »

Hello

Leaping into my Solo last week I noticed that cracks have re-opened in the bottom join between the sidetanks and the floor.

Any recommendations for dealing with this?

I gather I'm not the first person to sufer from this esp. in older boats and I'm not sure of what exactly is behind the join....might have to wait until later on in the year when its dry..

Depends on how pretty you want it to be.

Easy way is to just clean and dry the joint and re-glue with a nice epoxy fillet, maybe with some tape also if you want it to be mega-strong.

Not hard to do. Did my Firefly years ago and still no problems with the joint.

Good morning - I had the same problem on my old Albacore, put a fix in place this winter and it seems to be doing the job grandly so far.
3inch fibreglass tape and epoxy all the way around the join between sole and box. The result is a very strong bond, waterproofed with the epoxy .

Easier to carry out the job with two pairs of hands, one to lay in place the tape as you go, followed by the second epoxying the stuff in place.
