Possible Forum Upgrade

Post by neil »

The developers of the forum software have released a later version with more functionality - I've been waiting for months for the stable version of the new software to be made available.

This newer version allows this posting of attachments (photos, documents etc), which is a good thing.

However, the upgrade will mean that that you would all have to click on the password reminder to be issued with a new password as the upgrade creates a new database that affects the way the password it stored. You would then have to input your login name and email address to get a new password.

I know you all had to do this recently after the last upgrade. Are you happy to do it again?

When you look at all we get from the forum, what's an extra click or two?

Once again, hats off to Neil for sorting this.....................

I'll get it sorted over the weekend as looking at the forecast it's going to be too nasty - even for Finn sailors.

The forum will be down at some point on the weekend, but only for an hour or so and I'll email everyone with instructions once it's upgraded

Having spent today testing the new forum it looks like the passwords still work without you all having to apply for new ones.

You can also add attachments - only pictures (gif and jpg) and pdf documents. I can't allow Word documents to be attached as they can contain macro viruses. I'm working on a solution to this at the moment.

If you have a look at the 'User Control Panel' up there in the top right you can see what you can configure yourself.

And it's really easy to change the font colour

How does one reduce photo files (800+ KB) down to 256 KB or less to post them, please?

The 256Kb can be increased but I'd rather keep it low as if we upload lots of files of 800Kb we'll soon fill the server.

If you resize the image to 800 by 600 pixels you should be OK

Photo reduction - use the photo editing software you've got on your pc eg Paint shop pro, etc as usual.
