Making photographs smaller

Post by Ianphot »

Anyone having problems with photo sizing should have a look at these web pages -http://www.somewhere-in-time.net/tutorial/irfanview/
This uses Irfanview - a free download for Windows - http://www.irfanview.com/

If you have an existing program re-size your images to 72 dpi (or pixels per inch) at a sensible screen size - most browsers display images at 72 dpi.

Size is much more of an issue with today's megapixel cameras - if you are not keen to mess about with software conversion set your camera to the minimum size and medium jpeg setting which should produce files at reasonable size.

Anyone wishing more information can pm me with individual queries.

Thanks Ian,

I assure you the over-sized nature of my images in last post had everything to do with lazyness and very little to do with lack of knowledge.

I agree about Irfanview....a good program. I will be using it in my next 3 (maybe 5) training days in Digital imaging, which are coming up shortly in the South West.

cheers

Kathryn has one of the original Intel digital cameras from the very early days. I think I'll start using that more, and same myself all these headaches...or post from work, where there are plenty of ways of playing with images.
