Migration of Website Server over next week or so 20/11/2012

Post by Ed »

Hi All,

please be aware that over the next week we will be migrating the server which holds the cvrda.org website.

This will enable us to undertake long overdue program updates for website/forum/image gallery.

During this time, you will hopefully not notice any problems, however if you find that the site or forum is down, please stick with us, it will be back shortly.

If your problems continue, you will find that clearing your browser cache should help by making sure that your browser is getting through to the new and correct server.

Any problems, please do leave a message here, or email me on ed<at>cvrda.org

Best wishes

This has all taken a bit longer than originally planned....

....but is now done, so all we have to do is update the forum databases.

To do this, We will need to close down the forum for a day or so, to update it and then change the DNS settings to direct browsers to the new site.

This may mean that your connection to the website and forum becomes a bit erratic for a day or so whilst your browser finds the new server. To help this process, I would advise you clear the cache in your browser to speed up the process of finding the new one.

For those who really can't wait....and know how to guarantee getting through to the new Server, you can add the new IP address of the new server to your hosts file: 159.253.214.210 (but do wait until tomorrow morning!)

I will be putting the forum into maintenance mode this evening: 03/12/2012 to allow the final migration and change of DNS to start tomorrow morning. I will open it again once the work has been undertaken.

Thanks and sorry for the short time out.

Tip - if you want to know if you are looking at the new website, check the events list on the front page - only the new site has the 2013 events.

Pat,

could you check this again....

the re-migration may of been 'all data' rather than 'just forum data', in which case the old site would of over-written you additions to the new site.

cheers

Looks like it was all the data but I only put a couple in to test it - no problem. I've added the lot now.
Just the dozen or so website software updates to do that have been waiting for the new server - could be busy this evening.

Just to clarify matters, for me at least, are we still restricted by bandwidth considerations regarding posting pictures. I see a couple of fairly large Moth pics since I last perused the forum, on one posting, prior to refurbishment of the site.
Or is it still more prudent to link such by URL,s?

Hi,

we did raise the limit a little, which has now allowed images to be posted again....

....but yes, it is always best practice to link them from elsewhere if you can

cheers
