Here she is:

Down in Cornwall though, which will add a significant amount to the eventual purchase price when fuel for pickup is added.

It will have been rebuilt built in bouancy was first built in in no 1926 as an experiement and adopted at the 1966 AGM. I'll wager it is very overweight! Still it is sound, and a going concern.

Love those W&C rolled in decks.

Photos show her sailing at Rock.....might of seen her there.

I really like these, but don't have any room at the moment.

But if anyone wants me to go and have a look.....could do so.

cheers

All,

I have been wrong in the past and could well be wrong again BUT......

Pictures 3 and 4 are not the same boat as in pictures 1 and 2. Indeed, I would say that pics 3 and 4, from what I can see, are off a smooth skinned hot/cold moulded hull. Looking at the interior shot of the forrard bulkhead I see no sign of clinker, or of the traditional V shape that one gets in a merlin of that age..... but I do see a shape that is very reminisant of a 505!!

But as I say, could be wrong.............

That is peculiar. Photos 3 and 4 look like a very nice boat!

I don't what you two (Rupert & DH.) drank at lunch time but it looks like X 4 clinker in the pictures to me the decks are undoubtably not original and it will be very heavy too, the design the Mk15 was not the best and certainly not the most succesful Ian Proctor drew. THe only other MR I ever saw with ecks sort of like that except they were NOt tanks and only went about 6" down was Bob Dales home finished hence the decks which were cold moulded 1593 a Proctor 9 Hoare Hull aptly named at the time "Gloo Pot". It weighed a ton well a lot overweight anyway.

AG,

Not a drop Sir.... I was out looking at masts and sails amongst other activities - which included a lengthy call to Dave C and at all points I was compos mentis!

As I say, I could we be suffering from a short term departure from my senses BUT after many a long year looking forwards in a 505 - those John Westell lines are a beauty to behold. The Proctor XV was full in the bow (by IXb and XII standards) but not that full nor was the boat that beamy. I'm happy to stand corrected BUT - that is what it looks like to me!!

I'm certainly no Merlin expert, although I do admire them and have looked at many over the years, and this one is certainly different, and I agree it does look reminiscent of a 505, but if you look closely where the front bulkhead meets the floor you can see the outlne of the planks.

Brooksey

Have just saved the picture and then blown it up to 400% and am now ready to accept that this is far more merlin than 505 - though in the blown up pic, the hull shape is even more along the lines of a five o- all the way until it reaches the topsides and doesn't reverse the turn into the 'flaired' gunwale area.

So.... head hung in abject apology - but what a fun way to spend a Friday PM!!

When I saw pics 3 & 4 I thought the same as David. Blow me down, it's me old friend the Daring. Rolled side decks, raised foredeck, the lot. Unfortunately the shape of the transom was not visible. Then I realised the decks were not flared out at the top quite as much as they would have been for a Daring. But close, very close.
