Classic dinghy sailing clips

Post by mole »

Have a look at this site:

http://www.britishpathe.com/results.php ... hy+sailing

You might see something you own!

Lots more interesting stuff other than sailing as well

1953; 'dinghy sailing' shows Merlins and others including Merlin 220 which I am rebuilding at the moment (thanks for spotting that Chris)
Loads of good footage especially for the twelves.

Lovely film....

interesting though.....

This was the 1954 regatta....yet there were lots of shots of a sparkling new MR669, which according to the Merlin records was not made till 'circa 1956'......so either records/title is maybe a bit wrong.

Also....might very well be wrong....but was that an Ent I saw? Again designed 1956....so presumably not.

cheers

It could be that they only recently found the film in their archives, so it was probably mis-labeled.

I love it when you look at this film....and you have to remind yourselves that the Merlin and the Ent would of been absolutely brand new and 'cutting-edge' technology for sailing.

To us they look quaint and old....but then....they would of been really 'wizzy'.
