Thanks for posting this - the film of the punt racing at Maninngtree was fascinating. Do you know whether this still takes place anywhere?

If you go to 'Intheboatshed.net' you can see two new built duck punts sailing with optimist rigs, and if you follow the links to Dylan Winters site you can find the plans to build one yourself. An idea winter CVRDA challenge, can we have more duck punts than Minisails on the water next year?

There's not much dinghy sailing at Stour SC anymore - it's a lovely pace to sail and I crewed for a mate of mine there at this years Regatta. The sailing punts are still sailed, mostly by members of one family using a variety of cut-down sails from other craft (I think one was using a Topper sail) - they are very nimble things and great to watch, they don't have a rudder and are steered by an oar. I don't think that the punts are involved in any of the racing at Manningtree but they sail fairly regularly. I'm hoping to join the club in the summer as it's just down the road (20 minutes ish) away from Alton Water where I normally sail.

Cheers,

Nigel (the other one)
