I can only echo the positive comments made already about the excellent weekends sailing and socialising at Clywedog during the National Rally.
Special thanks to Keith and his team of organisers and also to Mick for his perseverence and excellent race management.
It was great to see such a variety of truly wonderful craft and I was particularly impressed with Julian's FD, Lyndon's Stockholm Sprite and especially Chris and Lois' beautifully restored International 14.
Thanks also to Chris for the interesting ride up the lake in the Pegasus and to Dean for letting me sail the Minisail back downwind to the club, I'm just glad it wasn't upwind!
Finally, thanks to Tim and Pat for towing the boat up to the farm for us which left the van with just enough oomph to get up the steep bit of the hill in the rain1
Hope to see you all again soon if not at Banbury....

Cheers

Ian, is this why you don't sail a Finn? The van would never get it up any hills?

I had trouble getting up the hill on the way out towing the finn, wet cattle grids are rather slippy! Needed a bit of a run up to get over it but wanted to go slow so as not to shake the boat about too much...

Can I add my twopennyworth please to the appreciative comments about Clywedog ?.. Well I will. I had a wonderful time and learnt a huge amount from sailing with the other Moths as well as in competition in Open Water. My thanks to all at Clywedoc especially Keith and of course to the CVRDA for putting up with a pesky Moth so often getting in the way. Next time I hope to be well clear !!

Well that could certainly be one of the reasons why I don't sail a Finn although I don't remember many sailing clubs with an exit road quite that steep. I'd actually be less worried about the van's ability to tow the Finn than mine to pull it up the slipway without getting a slipped disc!
I have to say though that the brief sail I had in Django was surprisingly pleasant and it felt like a true thoroughbred. The rig works very much like a big Europe rig and the hull is very easily driven despite it's considerable mass. I did get the distinct feeling, however, that my weight would have little influence on the boats behaviour in a real breeze so I think that I am probably best sticking with the Moths for now.

Is there a Y&Y write-up in the offing?

If not, I can put a small piece together.

OK, for better or worse it is written, but need some photos to go with it, please!

If they can either be emailed to me (rupert@cvrda.org) or direct to club@yachtsandyachting.com (but let me know, please) I can get the article and photos to be together on Y&Y, thanks. I'll also send it to Pat to go on the front page here.

It was a great weekend so well organised and thanks to William (a young Clywedogian) who crewed for me at the last minute. We had a grand time and it was lovely to be back at probably the most spectacular sailing venue you could imagine. Lovely end to the trip was a red kite flying past me about 15 yards away as I drove out - just made the trip for me.

Didn't think of flying a spinny to help you up the hill! But mines blue not red.
