Avon River Rally - Long Distance 'Picnic' Race

Post by azimuth »

Hi All,

Details of this event are now available on www.severnsailing.org.uk - see the news and events section 1/2 way down the home page. If anyone is able to copy the documents across to the events section of the CVRDA site that would be handy.

Anyhow here is the main info:
Monday 30th May.
Long Distance ‘Picnic Race’ on the River Avon, approx. 9mile round trip start and finish at Severn SC
with a stop for Lunch at Tewkesbury CSC.
Briefing 10.30AM, Starting Window 11AM to 11.20AM. You can start anytime during this window, timings are taken as each boats starts - this avoids overcrowding on the busy river start line. We are combining the the club's annual Picnic Race, we will also pass boats from TCSC in their club event which does the same race the other way round. Teas available on return to SSC.
Free camping on Sunday night (plenty of space), well stocked bar and food available (Pizza & Salad).
Early arriving CVRDA Boats are invited to join the club racing at SSC on Sunday 29th May (starts at 11.30am, 2pm & 4pm).

It would be handy if those planning on coming could reply here so we have a rough idea of numbers (including if people would like food on Sun eve). Do let me know if there are any other questions or information needed.

See you on the River!
Cheers,
Keith.
Keith.

Dear Keith

How exciting! Kate, Cassie and me, along with Olwyn the wayfarer will be coming on Sunday, not quite sure what time. We will be coming in the motorhome.
I will let you know regarding food nearer the time if that is OK.
All looking forward to a picnic race, never done one of those before!!

Regards
Giles

Hi
I hope to be there with one or two crew in the Albacore.

I have to work on the Sunday evening so I need to work out when I can arrive and all other logistics first , which might include driving the boat up there and leaving it with a crew member overnight before i come back the next morning.....

erm....what ever it is , it's TBC.

Is there scope for not necessarily camping on the Sunday night but camping on the Monday , after the event instead?

Thanks
Tim

I am hoping to come, but still a bit unsure how I am getting there.

Alan and I are talking about bringing up a double stacker with his Finn and my Firefly.

So we are planning on doing it, just not sure how we are getting there :-)

cheers

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies... Answers to questions:

ChrisJW - I'm curious as to which of the fleet your planning to bring, the JB might be a bit on the big side for the river... love to see it though!

Giles - food confirmation nearer the time is fine, we only need a rough idea of numbers....

Tim - I hadn't really thought about camping on the Monday evening, it's unlikely any members would be staying over to keep the site open, I'm working on the Tues so staying over an extra night would be tricky for me. Would you like me to see if I can find out about other local campsites for you - I think there may be one in eckington which is only a mile or two away?

Thanks
Keith

Thanks Keith, don't worry. I have the week off work so thought it might be nice to relax a little there and perhaps sail again. We will make plans...
