50anniversary event inviting vintage boats

Post by chris »

About half an hour north of Newport or the Severn Bridge is Llandegfordd sailing club and they are celebrating 50 years. They would like to invite classic and vintage boats to celebrate their event.

Details are not yet finalised but this is their outline:
As far as the Sailing side is concerned, we are finalising the Notice of Race. Cost is going to be nominal, at most. There will be an Anniversary Regatta with 5 races, 3 on Saturday afternoon, and 2 on Sunday morning. There will also be a special race for the Llandegfedd Pin on Sunday. This has been won by a number of excellent sailors, including national and world champions, and an Olympic Silver medallist. There is a list of them under Results, Historic Pin winners on the web site.

The main races will have some prizes for boats over 50 years old. The numbers will be flexed slightly to cater for the number that comE.

Their website is www.llandegfedd.org.uk

More details as I get them.

I hope we can encourage some vintage and classics along to this.
We have it down in our diary.
It is possible for camper vans to stay in their car park over night but tents are not allowed. However there are sites quite close including a pub.

Note that the sponsor for their anniversary event is a brewery!
Two special prizes for boats over 50yrs
Entry is 10 for single handed
15 for double hander
5 for youth under 21

Sailed there a few times with the Canoes: nice club and great scenery. You think South Wales/post industrial, but Llandegfedd is up in the hills and very decorative, but still handy for towns and especially one curry house the ICs tend to frequent.
