AGM 2016

Post by chris »

As announced at last year's nationals the AGM will be held during the 2016 Nationals at Hunts. (most probably on Sunday evening 6.00pm).

There was some discussion about adjusting 'Dates of Eligibilty' last year to reflect the continuing progress of time. In line with our constitution notice is given that we have a pair of proposals to be voted on at the AGM:

The following are extensions to the existing definitions of our "wings" and are for a specified trial period.
These are shown in BOLD ITALICS

They have been proposed by Neil Witt and seconded by Rupert Whelan:

Proposed extensions are shown after the existing definitions:

3. BOAT CLASSIFICATIONS (WINGS)

(1) Handicapping will be used to promote good racing between boats of all ages and to reflect their degree of originality or modernization.
(2) Owners may make representation to the committee who may, at their discretion, place a particular boat in any of the three wings where it is clearly more suited to the spirit of that wing even if it does not fit the exact criteria of that wing.

(a) Vintage Racing Dinghies
The CVRDA define these as boats designed and built around WW2 using solid wood and no glue in their construction. They would be constructed using clench pin or copper rivet construction both in double-skin planking and clinker construction. Typical examples would include Uffa Fox built 14’s, early Holt built Merlins, Wyche & Coppock Rockets and many early National 12s.

(a) Vintage Racing Dinghies (trial extension)
In addition to definition 3(a) the CVRDA will be extending the definition of the Vintage Racing Dinghy Wing to include National 12s and Merlin Rockets built before 1955 and constructed from glued plywood

(b) Classic Racing Dinghies
The CVRDA define these as boats designed and built before 1965 that are not already covered by the Vintage classification. They would be made from plywood or moulded veneer construction using glue within construction. Typical examples would include any Fairey Marine built dinghy, all glued ply Merlin Rockets, glued National 12s and the plywood hard chine designs of Proctor and Holt. These boats would be from the hey-day of dinghy racing between the 2nd World War and 1965.

(c) Old Racing Dinghies
We define these boats as being from any dinghy class established before 1965 and built before 1985. This includes any of the development classes established before 1965 as long as the boat was built before 1985.

(c) Old Racing Dinghies (trial extension)
In addition to definition 3(c) the CVRDA will be extending the definition of the Old Racing Dinghy Wing to include a limited number of classes established between 1965 and 1975. These classes are:

Contender (aluminium rig only)
Devon Yawl
Javelin
Lark
Marauder
Miracle
Phantom (aluminium rig only)
Streaker

other classes will be considered on application to the CVRDA committee

Lost Classes . Certain interesting examples of dinghies from classes designed between 1965 and 1985 and where that class is no longer in production and its association has ceased to exist, may be permitted to join the Old Racing Dinghies Wing after application to the committee if it is felt that the dinghy embodies the spirit of the CVRDA. See 3 (2) above. No post 1985 built dinghy will be considered.

(d) Catamarans
The CVRDA define qualifying catamarans as having been designed before 1965 and built before 1985. Typical examples would include the designs of Rod MacAlpine Downie and Prout Brothers in plywood and in GRP.

(d) Catamarans (trial extension)
In addition to definition 3(d) the CVRDA will be extending the definition of the Catamaran Wing to include a limited number of classes established after 1965. These classes are:

Hobie 14
Hobie 18
Nacra 5.2
Nacra 5.8
Nacra 6.0
Prindle 18-2
Prindle 18
Tornado (aluminium rig only)
Unicorn

other classes will be considered on application to the CVRDA committee

The trial extensions amendments stated in 3(a) , 3(c) and 3(d) , will last for a period of two years, and after a review of the trials' efficacy further recommendations related to the definitions of the Vintage Racing Dinghies, Old Racing Dinghies and Catamaran Wings will be made at the 2018 CVRDA AGM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An additional clause to be an addition of the current rules and definitions has been proposed by Pat Jones and seconded by Alan Williams:

"Replicas, (which includes new hulls even if they contain a few parts of an old boat) may be able to join in with events at the organiser's discretion but will not be eligable for prizes."
