Wooden Mast - Free to good home

Post by fatboyfinn »

Whilst we were clearing out under our clubhouse, we found a 24.5ft wooden mast in remarkable
condition. together with a the boom and bamboo spar.

The mast is in good shape exept that it will need re glueing. Its a hollow mast with a built in track and very straight.
The boom is a box section 12ft long.
The bamboo spar - ~2" diameter and ~ 10ft -forgot to measure it.

All items need a home - sooner the better - before somebody wants to feed there wood burner.
They all at Starcross Y C Devon

Pics available.

Coming from Starcross they could be Hornet spars. The boom sounds to be quite long. I had to get Chris to make me one when I first got Shoestring as she is rear sheeted. I am not down that way for a while but it would be a shame to put them on the wood burner.
Can you post some pics on here or to me roger at cvrda dot org

I was wondering if it might actually be an Osprey mast - the size sound about right. I know 55's wooden boom is mighty long compared to a centre sheeted alloy one. If so it might be of use to me as I would like to get her back to "as built". I will measure up tomorrow....

Graham if you have immediate use I will leave it to you. I would give them a home to save them from the wood burner.

I'm urgently looking for a tall mast for Gently, merlin 16 as there isn't one for the boat. This would be deck stepped.
typical measurements:Gooseneck about 550-600mm (c.23") from foot, cross section measures about 95x 55mm (2.25x 3.73").
If yours is deck stepped the hieght is about right.
This was Jack Holt's own boat and we are hoping to relaunch soon in his centenary year after about 40years out of the water.

Not a very good pic......

Chris,

I suspect this was hog stepped - it has a square section for the first 500mm~
Next time at the club I'll try harder re Photographs. But do contact if you
need more information.
