Interesting, but a bit pricey.

Wooden Kestrel
Re: Wooden Kestrel
Gosh, what a wonderful find.
and what a lovely boat.
Wonder if it will get £2000.00. I would suspect not, but you never know I guess. I kind of hope it does really.

Re: Wooden Kestrel
A remarkably attractive boat. I never thought I would be amiring a kestrel!!
It looks a bit like a Merlin with a Babara Streisand nose job on the bow!

I think it looks great. Should it be in a museum? I would buy it if I had capacity, I have a soft spot for kestrels.

Re: Wooden Kestrel
It just doesn't look as if it's been loved enough to justify that price. The trailer does not have any cradles - it appears to be the road base of a combi with a winch as there are rollers for a trolley - and it's been strapped down to it and trailed over our bumpy roads - how long has it been like that and has it done any damage?

Re: Wooden Kestrel
Yes, that nose is the only slightly offputting aspect of what looks otherwise like a pulled out MkIX MR. Sort of like the same relationship between the Jollyboat and the Firefly/Swordfish.
It is oh so pretty, but a strong vertical stem would of (for me) made it a complete stunner.

Re: Wooden Kestrel
Hi All,
Hopefully i will have attached two pictures of my wooden Kestrel no 6 Cristel.
I have owned Cristel for around 36 years.
I also have her verified by the late Ian procter who confirmed her as number 6 and built by Jack Chippendale in the early to mid fiftys.
She is ply planked and glued with the only fastnings at stem and transom.
Cristel is a delight to sail and is still very quick in medium to light winds.
Sailed her in the 90's at the nationals at Castle Cove and managed a respectable 9th place overall.
I am not sure the boat advertised as no1 is a Kestrel as she appears very different to no6 and looks to be on the short side plus side decks are very different (appear rolled).
Of course i may be wrong so apoligies in advance if i am.
I have been asked in the past to place her in a musuem but at the time felt it would be a shame.
Anyway good sailing to all at the CVRDA and will see you at the Roadford event in my Finn.
Sorry could not add photos-if you look at the Kestrel site and go to technical, photos of Cristel are there(variants)
Cheers
Barney
