Firefly 1066 "Hastings"
Apparently built in 1952.
Very 'CRDVA' in that it still has the wooden top rotating Reynolds mast setup.
Lots of tuffnol, etc.
Decent enough suite of sails. Goes well, as they all do.
Very good breathable cover.
Very handy, if old, trolley, which breaks down nicely.
No trailer I am afraid.
Currently berthed at Whitefriars sailing club.
Ready to sail for the rest of the season. After which you can either refresh or tuck somewhere dry to use next season.
Price: £300 or near sensible offer from an enthusiast.
Contact me for pictures, or pop down and have a sail.
Mobile: 07511135033
Reason for sale: Got to let one go, and I still have a 60's N12, which is roomier for a fat boy.

How roomy is a Firefly to single hand when her indoors is away?

Re: Firefly 1066 "Hastings"
I do it all the time and find it fits me pretty well singlehanded.
It does depend a bit on whether you have the original Mk1 decks or later Mk2-3 decks (not sure about Mk4). Mk2&3 would give more space, but I am happy with the Mk1s.
Very tender with one in though, with great opportunities to roll your way upwind, bending Rule 42, although to be honest, it is hard not to...
It is great fun in up to F3, but anything more than that and you really need the added ballast, as much to steady the boat as to balance it.
Of course, you have to put up with having your handicap knocked down by one, which to mind is totally stupid. It then becomes a gamble. Less than F3, you are OK, but F3 or over and you are desperate for crew and are handicaped down .....but hey ho, there you go...
Do it....
Great fun

I believe it is a Mk1 deck, in that it is wide enough and comfortable enough to sit on. I rarely sit in the boat, unless it is very light.

Re: Firefly 1066 "Hastings"
I am tempted, I have no cvrda single hander just now, I just don't know if i can face another older wooden boat. Aggie will take up a fair bit of the shed in winter. My school team has just taken on a flight of six fireflies for team racing. They do look a good single hander option.
Undecided.

I am interested. I'm going to have a look in one of the school boats tomorrow and see what the knee room looks like. I will let you know what i think.

Re: Firefly 1066 "Hastings"
The Rondar boats have less room inside, so don't base everything on them.
The one point off for singlehanded sailing is my fault, Ed. On most of the small ponds we sail, or sailed, at, Saskia was faster without a crew, and I got enough stick on handicapping already...

Fireflies are great single handed boats.
