A rare beast - an Alpha!

Post by jpa_wfsc »

on Ebay, spotted 24h July. This one has a Heron's rig - it should, basically, have the same rig as a Firefly (rotating mast).

If anyone takes her on - be aware that the boat was made of a GRP - foam - GRP sandwich and the foam is NOT waterproof - indeed it is very hydroscopic and soaks fast. The one I sailed in as a junior in the early 70's weighed so much after a sail that it took most of the club to pull it up the slipway. We separated the two halves, stripped out the foam, and then (sadly) gave up and scrapped it.

When working, they were quick, lively boats and aimed at team racing - the bow was a rubber moulded block.
