Re: A duet of merlins
Tried rolling the Easter egg and I now have a creme egg buried inside a 4ft diameter snowball !! Soooooooo I thought given Chris' and Neil,s duet and trio posts what about collective names for boat designs - something to excercise the brain cells while I figure out a way of fitting sledge runnners to the Firefly. For example
A REFLECTION of Mirrors!
A BUMP of Flying Fifteens
A HUM of Hornets
A CHUCKLE of Jollyboats
An EBB or FLOW of Tideways
Get the idea - over to you while I go and dig the car out!!
Oh and a very Happy Easter - I am sure the seasons have got muddled.

Re: A duet of merlins
Was hoping to sail tomorrow for the first time this year - apart from high winds snow is forecast down here, Garry tomorrow (that's in Wiltshire)
So Albacore may wait another week.
For musical connections to boats look inside the cover of Proctor's Racing Dinghy Maintenance book- nice little sketches of boats rigging to Rigoletto, being towed= Allegro con Moto, rounding a mark= Rondo, launching and handling on the shore= portemento. Etc

Re: A duet of merlins
I have the same problem as Chris, but without the musical overtones...
Have had the Firefly for a fortnight and a combination of hogh winds and river levels combined with model boat constuction means that it will be another week at least.
Back to the subject in hand
A parry of Swordfish
or
A tonne of Finns
Have a good Easter everyone

A sparkle of Fireflies?
As Kathryn and I each now own one, we need a collective noun! I've just come back from collecting 3460, a 1978 (how young?!) Kinght and Pink built Firefly from Reading. She is a boat I have known the transom of ever since I started sailing, so it will be nice to see the rest of her now! Needs a little work on the decks and some varnish, but soon Kathryn and I will be able to race each other, with 2 small crews!

A palindrome of 505s
An opera of Phantoms
A duvet of Ducklings
A boardfull of Darts
A balding of Coots
As you can see from the foregoing the weather here is pretty poor and having painted a rather sad launch trolley with hammerite there was little else to do.

For old boats in general...

And for those who sail them...

A polish of restorers
An insert of re-deckers
A scrub of paint removers
A blister of heat guns
A grade of sandpaperers
An adherence of gluers
A mould of fibreglassers
A layer of veneerers
A Robbins of woodworkers
These can all be summed up by a "Skint" of Obsessives!!!
