Thought of having a punt for this myself providing the price doesn't get too silly. Only trouble is the boats in Kent and my current car is without towbar.

Phantoms on ebay seem to be like buses, you don't see one for ages then 4 come along all at once :D .

Sail Number 5 .....certainly a classic - and at 1971 nearly 40 years old must make it almost vintage. Please note though that as a non member of the cvrda my thoughts dont necessarily count!

Very hard to 'not' be a member of the CVRDA.....if you are human and hang out here

but if you are a boat....and you are a phantom, then of course it is not quite so easy.

oh god Ed why do you do this to me!!! I have to say the rudder and centreboard look lovely . Almost worth bidding just to get them! The boat looks nicer than mine :x but fortunately I know that it is the wrong boat for me because of my sylph like figure......

By the way Ed, I have joined the phantom class association and you know what that means....

Actually I had another look: it doesn't look nicer than mine - my varnish is much more sound - but it is very similar. I took my track off and have a much newer sail, having ditched the old one. My mast also needs new spreaders but is otherwise sound.

I know I need to sell it but I can't quite get round to it. Whereabouts are you Rich? If you want a phantom project mine might suit - K88.

Nessa, I already have 499 undergoing restoration. I don't realy need two phantoms but No 5 is hard to resist given the early sail number and the fact that it also looks a relatively easy fix if your not too bothered about re-decking straight away. I have some reservations about the masts on offer though!

Unfortunately collection of the boat for me may be a problem as I would have to hire a vehicle with a towbar, but as it's already up to £87 with 4 days still to go, the price could get a liitle too rich for me anyway.

There is always something nice about boats with sail numbers under 10. (especially if they went on to make a few more than that  )

cheers

Rats - out-bid at the end. I was just trying to work out how to break the news of another varnish job in the household.....

Sold for a lot more than I expected and certainly way more than my budget.

I am amazed at how much it went for. I paid £75 for mine. I suppose it's down to the popularity of the class at the moment. Perhaps I should be putting mine up for sale now

Let us know if it does go on e-bay.... I don't need / can't afford / have no justification for another boat but for some reason am tempted by a phantom just for days when I don't have an Osprey crew........ Perhaps we could barter for varnishing work.....
