Can one find information on a pre-war I14?

Post by ACB »

A local history book has a photo of my Club, the Deben Yacht Club, before the start of a race, in August 1938. The only boat that can be definitely identified from a sail number is an I14 - K114.

Is it possible to identify her name, owner, builder and designer?

According to the Int.14 book, K114 was built in 1928, and was both designed and built by T. Thorneycroft. She was called Surf 111, and was owned by R L Sutton.

Nick, thank you very much. No doubt by 1938 she was reduced to local club racing, but in the photo she lends and air of distinction to the scene (and it's nice to know that I14's once raced on the Deben...)
