1604 and 3205 currently on ebay

there was another nice Merlin there recently....but must of gone.

I wouldn't be in a hurry.....but sniff around, there are quite a few out there and if you search the right boat out you should get something nice for very little money.

You can always check here for thoughts if you find something and are unsure.

cheers

The merlin website also has a good design guide which deals with the earlier designs too. The proctor 9 is not the only good design around but it may depend on where you sail and on yourselves. If you are in the midlands come over to Banbury sailing club, on Bodington resevoir on saturday 19th. It's a vintage merlin event. You will see quite a variety and there is usually someone who knows someone wanting to pass on a merlin. say hallo.
See you there I hope, chris

Still after a rocket. Don`t mind if it requires some work. But must be fairly cheap.

Hi there Mr B,

what are you looking for (okay.... a Merlin which is a wonderful choice) but you've a huge range of choice to look at. If you're talking about having a limited budget, are you looking for the absolute bargain basement boat that is as modern as possible - or an older boat that might just be in better nick?

Have you considered the weight and dreaded location questions? THere was a 'Winderbox' for sale a while back - a truly wonderful boat if you sailed on a pond somewhere (they tack so quickly you just don't have to do anything - just think it and the boat tacks for you) but...would you want to sail one out on the sea? Err...think not!

Best is to try to get an idea of what you really want and then start looking

Hi davidh.

To be honest at this stage having not sailed a merlin before, anything would be considered. But i have to say it`s a safe bet i will sail inland.

If one is available in the midlands even better. (less travelling)

Cheers

Lee,

If you've not sailed one then you're in for a treat - they really are something special.

There was a boat down in Dulverton (okay, I know that is Devon but the owner was asking very little) that had been up for grabs for ages and ages. I do not know the fate of that one BUT they are around - we've had offers on this website even for boats free to a good home.

Good luck hunting - it took me some time to find what I really wanted

This is a merlin Hull in need of restoration. Cheap!
I can probably give you a mast, boom and some other bits if you get it. Only a day or so left.

It looks like a Holt c. 1950's so a very nice inland boat when restored.

Ah.. he has now put the number there. 543 is a Riant by Holt. I have 507 which is a Holt Riant and I can thoroughly recommend it. a really nice inland boat that will sail very well. Everyone else who sails her really likes her too. Date is 1954

I have been asked to help move on 1983, built by Wyche and Coppock, which belonged to a sailing pal who sadly passed away some months ago. I'll take some photos and check out the sails soon, but this was a fussy owner, so I think everything will be fine and it's a complete boat. Had a look under the cover and all looks well, just a sand of the decks and some varnish on these needed. In the circumstances it will not cost a lot, but it's far too good to be free. Any interest in a nice inland Merlin?
