Xmas Advent Calendar- Guess the Boat

Post by Merlin3241 »

Mrs Merlin 3241 has acquired a new boat. I thought it would be fun to post a new teaser pic and a clue each day by way of an advent calendar. Need to know class/designer and as she's quite historic in her way, bonus points for her sail number and why she's historic.
Starter clue: She is historic but doesn't qualify for CVRDA. Bonus clue, she's not a Merlin. I'll stand the winner a pint at next years Roadford. Good Luck!!

yes....please don't stop....this is a brilliant idea....much better than mine.

I only wonder how you inform someone who has got it 'right'.

You don't want to say it publicly as others might not of got it yet - maybe a PM to those who guess right?

Great camera angles. No point in doing any research yet...bring on day 3... Advent has become more interesting - well done that man!

Sorry for obscure camera angles Rupert, I believe there's not a boat on the planet you lot couldn't identify with 24 good photos!

Day three:
I wonder if Uffa believed in evolution? Or Jack or Ian for that matter.

The camera angles are the best bit! I'm hoping no one clever will give it away too soon...

Well, what do we know...
It appears to be round bilge or have heavy curvature in the bow region
It appears to be wood with appreciable glass reinforcement, don't know whether its original or added
It appears to have a very low fordeck or just possibly a crewdeck (i favour foredeck because of the angles).
It must be later than the 60s, and quite possibly 80s...

4th day:
As it's a Sunday I thought we'd have a pic of some nice wood.
Clue
When I was new, I was so light I had to have 1 Kg of lead added to make me legal. A year later this was removed, and seven further kg's too.

I read that wrongly, and saw in my head a very light baby having a kilo of lead added to bring him up to weight. Then I realized you were talking about the mystery boat, not yourself...

I've got an idea, but I'd don't want to ruin it for everyone in case it is right, and anyway I am not certain yet, infact there is a good chance I am wrong!

Day 5:
Strange but true. The maximum beam is positioned 10ft aft of the bow.
