Max (et al) We can do better than that, you don't have to wait until next xmas for another confusing conundrum.
I have another racing dinghy (of the sailing variety). She's glass with a wood deck. In 1974 she had a rating faster than a Hornet (87) and slower than a 505 (81) but she is only 8 feet long (2.4 m)! Those figures are correct, I've not been at the sherry early! What is she? Feel free to debate in open forum.
Pics and answer on new years day.

Sorry to keep you waiting. A fibreglass dinghy with a wooden deck, that in 1974 she had a rating faster than a Hornet (87) and slower than a 505 (81) but she is only 8 feet long (2.4 m)? I've two of these. No guesses from anyone?

The Mothball thing did occur to me but she's possibly cut off a bit short. I saw the original article when it came up on the forum before. I think this is more likely to become a quirky 8ft bookcase or trophy cabinet! Friend of mine has a very effective porch canopy made the rigid bit of a rib upside down on his kitchen flatroof, projecting out over the door, so loads of ways of recycling old boats. Maybe we should have a thread on this unless it's been done before.

We have a four foot long merlin (now a coffee table) in our clubhouse. Occasionally there's a note on itsaying " this is what happens if you don't pay your dinghy berth fees" or something similar. But I should say it was donated to the club in the sawn off coffee table version.
