Don't reckon E. seems to be hard chine. Also rather deep V on the floor.

14' is a guess?

If it's an over-estimate, it could be an early Graduate, at 12'8"...

A Graduate 100% most certainly. Pos 1960s as the early ones had a wooden square hatch on the rear deck and one just in front of the mast on the forward deck. My very first boat ( no. 692 from 1958) when I was 12 years old. Much later I had 856 from 1960 and even later, just a few years back, I had 2324. A glass "supergrad" from 1972. All wonderful little boats with zero nasty habits.

Well, perhaps I should have said that the Grad is not very demanding to sail rather than vice free. Dad and I had been learning in an Ent (9677) up until the time I got my Grad. I have a huge soft spot for Grads but feel nothing for Ents. I wonder what the modern flat head main does to the Grad's manners?.

What a co incidence I started in Ents and went on to Grads which at 8 years old I found much easier because they then had the small jib and were a foot narrower. I was helming regularly by my mid teens and found the old type ill equipped Grad absolutely evil down wind in any sort of breeze. Physical size put me back into Enties in my 20s and there I stayed for years until Albacores.
I am told that the big head sail makes Grads more stable and I can see the logic but I am not sure I believe it!

692 came with a newish Holt jib to the larger plan and was a totally different ride downwind to Dad’s Ent in which , in the early days, we always seemed to land up swimming on this point of sailing.
In 74 when I left school I lost my supply of crews for the Grad so got a Laser. Had this for only a year before getting an OK. The beginning of a love affair that endures until today despite dalliances with other classes and two more Grads over the years.

Rig tension and a kicker that actually works, which is more than could be said of the one on the Grads I used to borrow, made a huge difference to both the Grad and Ent. We were all very excited when we got the new "Big Jib" in the mid 60s and it certainly made things a bit less exciting on a run. With the little jib there was a horrible tendency to broach. Now I have a tendency to head for the bar when it is windy!
