The Best Of…The Wingnut Award

Post by Pat »

The Wingnut is awarded at the Nationals for acts of gross under-achievement or stupidity on or off the water.
With the 20th anniversary of the CVRDA in mind, I've put together a summary of the Wingnut award stories that I can find.

http://www.cvrda.org/the-best-ofthe-wingnut-award/

However more is needed so please can folks add here their recollections of the various Wingnut awards made over the years.

Dear oh dear Pat....in the interests of honesty, I'm going to have to put my hand up for one (only ONE?) - think Baltic Wharf, the Unit and a tin of pro-lube......and Ed B telling me "don't do it"...….ouch. Or stamping a hole in the bottom of a merlin then blaming it on a heavy footed crew - take a bow Roger D.....

Actually - Roger D gets lots of nominations - such as a port hand start at Whitefriars in an Albacore, right in front of both Rupert in the Tonic and the 'camera never lies' lens of a waiting journalist - the sequence of the boat sinking by the stern was very popular for a while (come to think of it, but be worth reheating that one...)

Didn't Roger also win one for an incident at Clywedog, was it being towed behind the fireball?

JPA I believe won the wingnut at Whitefriars in 2012? In the Skua, possibly for capsizing a keelboat? Garry was a close runner up for his Rocket, maybe disintegrating? There was a write up all those years ago.

I liked the fellow at Hunts who liberally coated himself in bathroom sealant.

Dougal's pro-lube on the Unit at Baltic Wharf was definitely one of the most noteworthy incidents ever, though we only award the Wingnut at the Nationals.

Can anyone remember the ones from Roadford between 1999 and 2005? Or 2010 at Clywedog?

Also I can't remember an award at 2016 Hunts or 2017 Clywedog - maybe everyone was too well behaved!

Hunts 2016 was sealand man. I think he was a mini sail sailor.
