Hi Ed
The Enterprise class did try out a spinnaker the one Joe Snawdon( a well known S.W. Ent. sailor), had on Sir Francis was about 420 size.
Rumours at the time mid to late 60's was that the Indian Ent. Assoc had adopted the spinnaker. Whether this was true or not I don't know. Alan Williams

Ah, not knowing about Enterprise class rules I accepted that this was an Ent spinny on the basis that that was the legend... and of course it is blue!

Re: Swift 419
As I recall the Enterprise CA got their knickers in a twist about their PY number some years back (mid 90s perhaps) and came to the very odd conclusion that the solution would be to adopt a spinnaker for handicap racing only. It never, as far as I can recall, got anywhere near enough popularity to get a published PY number, and one assumes that any club getting an entry for an Enterprise with an extra rag would surely have dropped the number. I wouldn't be surprised if most clubs had dropped the number by more than the actual difference the sail would make, because they mostly make less difference than most people think.

Hi Jim
The trial I'm talking about took place in the late 60's.

Swift 419 has a new owner and is on its way North to Carsington, not a million miles from No 5...?

Not at all, Carsington is close to Derby and not that far from Staunton Harold. I believe Carsington race cats too whereas I only have permission for a few trial sails at Staunton Harold.

We lived in Derbyshire a few years ago. I remember Carsington as being a bit bare, having just been built. Understand it is much nicer now.
Peter, I have sent you a pm.
