Did anyone bid on Alarm?
I was thinking about it to prevent it from being destroyed.

I was good and bid on nothing. Feeling sad about that, now!

But think of all the time you've saved in not having to search for all those missing and unobtainable fittings that have been lost over the years.Rupert wrote:I was good and bid on nothing. Feeling sad about that, now!
Give it a while and a few of the boats will be back on the market either at a hugely inflated price or as a giveaway when the full horrors are revealed.

Exactly my thoughts...and maybe they will have got nearer too.neil wrote:But think of all the time you've saved in not having to search for all those missing and unobtainable fittings that have been lost over the years.Rupert wrote:I was good and bid on nothing. Feeling sad about that, now!

ALARM sold for £475.00chrismartin3583 wrote:Did anyone bid on Alarm?

(If you registered to bid, you can log on to the website and see the prices paid, but not of course the name of the buyer.)
I had a look at her, but concluded that her condition was beyond my ability. I was looking for a boat to sail, rather than a piece of history, and I hope that is what I have got.
The "nameless Morgan Giles", Lot 669 was the other one that I had my eye on but I see from the FB page that she is going off to a Morgan Giles collection at Gosport, so she is safe.
Looking back I am shocked that I missed JENNETTA, National 12 no 235, at Lowestoft, which sold for £25. I fear that that was someone's silly starting bid with no real expectations of owning a pre-War 12, and I hope she is safe.
If the buyer is reading this and doesn't really want her I will gladly double his money and collect her. If the buyer really wants her of course, I will just offer my congratulations.
It would be nice if buyers would identify themselves here or on the FB page.

Collected Galatea from Eyemouth today.
This is just to mention that many boats were still in the sheds, although the auctioneers' deadline for collection is tomorrow....

I rather expect many will stay just where they are.
Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
With no fork lift truck available, the boats on the upper levels of racking in the Ostrich Shed at Eyemouth and the polytunnel at Lowestoft seem very likely to do just that. Almost by definition, these will include many boats of interest to the CVRDA...chris wrote:I rather expect many will stay just where they are.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
The terms and conditions of the sale stated that Lots not removed by the required date would be disposed of
I would assume the priority is to clear the sites ASAP
On the other hand all but a handful of lots did sell and you would have thought would be collected
I bid on A.T s 14 which did not reach its reserve and afterwards vanished as a lot number from the sale . Anyone know what happened to it ?

There seemed to be a few lots that had the reserves left on in error; in those cases I assume first refusal offers were automatically sent to the high bidder. i.e. Coil of rope: Bid £36 (Reserve £888,888)Petej wrote:.... There was a 14 in the unsold lots section at I think £525 with a reserve of £888,888 which disappeared the following day so we must assume the high bid was offered & accepted.
I also assume (or hope) that on Mon/Tues/Wed an a-frame of sorts will be in operation at Lowestoft as it is a working boat yard, if not then some scaffold poles and slings should be urgently found, although it looks like there may be a few telehandlers and JCBs in the area. The ground floor and middle rack should be OK it's only the top rack that presents problems, but as a ground floor tenant I do not want anyone standing on my decks! Not sure what will happen to the piles of masts / ephemera in the centre but a clear passage is needed so the Monday a.m people may have their hands full (or the poly-tunnel is going to end up with a lot of holes in it)
Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
The issue may well be purely down to payment - I don't believe that the liquidators accept financial responsibility for specialist equipment needed to aid collection.T_G wrote:There seemed to be a few lots that had the reserves left on in error; in those cases I assume first refusal offers were automatically sent to the high bidder. i.e. Coil of rope: Bid £36 (Reserve £888,888)Petej wrote:.... Of course this can be arranged - Tony, the marina manager, is fully aware of the issue but has not got any budget available to him.
He does, however, have a fork lift/ telehandler hire company next door, a scaffolding company on site and many contacts that can be called on but the bottom line is that it has to be paid for. It may be a good idea for those collecting boats known to be on the upper layers to talk to each other and to Tony - it can be arranged but time is short. I'm happy to help in any way I can but only the manager can authorise what comes on site so best to talk directly.
Good luck!
NB - it's a marina without a boat yard, no gantry or 'A' frame. It's been said on the CVRDA Facebook forum that they were put up without mechanical assistance (possibly a HIAB) but there was damage done to some of the boats.
Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
I note on facebook that "Incidentally, a small bird tells me that all is not sweetness and light at Lowestoft..."
That's too cryptic and further details are needed! I don't think the site manager knows of any problems so I wonder who the small bird is and what is "not sweetness and light"?
The forum might like to know that most of the boats in Lowestoft are evidently going to China.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
I have bought the 2 moths at Lowestoft and will be going on Wednesday to collect them. As far as i can tell from the photos one is stood on end and the other is not on the top layer as there is racking above it. Being Moths, they should not be heavy and I hope we can manage them out ok. If anyone has been there can they confirm?
I understand the lots are for hull and mast for each, but what happened to all the other bits, assuming they were once complete? Are they possibly on site or mixed up with some other parts elsewhere?

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection
The upright one is easily accessible for a couple of people - the other is on top of another boat on the top layer so effectively 4 boat stories up...given the weight not a huge issue...particularly if you are fit enough to sail a Moth! A head for heights handy maybebornagainmothie wrote:I have bought the 2 moths at Lowestoft and will be going on Wednesday to collect them. For anyone collecting by all means give me a call...I only live about 20 minutes away and happy to help but I would urge you to contact Tony, the marina manager, he is on top of all the latest movements (some boats may have been brought down) and has access to various means of accessing the boats. He's knowledgeable and helpful and is in charge of the site.
NB - I looked for wings, booms, foils etc without success ...there are odd piles of unidentified kit but not Moth stuff I think.
