Not Falmouth, Rupert...go north.
The last and largest wooden warship was built near here. it displace twice as much as HMS Victory and was fitted with a steam engine as well as sails. But it never saw service.

yes Michael, the GWR teminated at Neyland on the north bank of the Cleddau about four miles up stream from Milford Haven. In fact for a time they called the terminus Milford. it became a busy deep water port, even the great Eastern put in few times for repairs. the track was originally broad gauge and a few samples survive being used as railings.car park, boat works and a marina now fill the site. On the other bank is Pembroke dock the Royal Naval dockyard had thirteen covered building slips. a great deal of history here.

Bobsleigh Track ...Cresta? Rupert. i give up on the non existent one though.

Yup, Cresta. A strange little Percy Blandford design.

But technically that wasn't *Brunel's* Great Western Railway... Neyland was the South Wales Railway, which wasn't amalgamated with the Great Western until after Brunel died...

I take your point, Jim, but on the other hand Brunel was the engineer for the SWR, thus ,presumably, the use of broad gauge originally; and the GWR funded the construction, not sure if that was completely or not, and it seems the two companies were in partnership before they amalgamated. Brunel the overall mastermind.
The old quay is still called Brunel quay.

As a complete tangent I have just realised the early merlins were almost exactly the same width as Standard guage and the widest ones Broad gauge railway track.
